About

about march hare farm

March Hare Farm was established in the heart of the Berkshires by husband and wife team, Simon and Kate Chennells.

Simon was born in South Africa and raised in the provinces of Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape. Simon grew up intrenched in farming activity, exposing him to crops such as sugar cane, citrus, olives and their respective markets. His love of food, wine, people and service led him into the hospitality industry which allowed him to travel and experience Berkshire County in 2006.

Kate, a Berkshire native, whose education and work experience includes fashion and visual merchandising, product development and store buyer, started her career in NYC and locally has worked for Annie Selke and Jacob’s Pillow. Her love of nature and the outdoors influences her aesthetic.

Having met in the Berkshires, Simon and Kate moved to South Africa in 2010 where they owned, operated and developed a 300-acre flower farm in the foothills of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The farm produced and marketed cut flowers into the international trade and specialized in growing South Africa’s national flower, the Protea.

Returning to the Berkshires in 2019 with their boys, Benjamin and Ross, Kate and Simon have progressed their careers through working and connecting with people in their community and surrounding areas.
